SOUL TREASURE

Soul Treasure
So this poem walks into a bar and...
just kidding..
the walking part is true but not into a bar,
just down an unknown street,
maybe an alley..
a pointless stroll of thoughts,
rush hour traffic
in the caffeinated workshop of my mind
maybe not pointless,
hard to say at this early juncture,
these journeys have a way of tripping onto an insight
laying around some corner
but maybe not,
what is most important?
the destination
or
the walk itself?

..a GPS does not adventure make,
maybe this doesn’t really qualify as poetry,
it’s not concise nor metaphorical,
there are no allusions to nature
(not yet anyway),
and it obviously has no idea where it’s headed
or what it wants to say,
it is itself more like
a pilgrim on a road, more like a stream,
now a boat, moored in a harbor,
now rowing through words,
capsizing-
then sinking to unfathomable depths
where lost ancient treasure chests
resting on deep ocean floors
wait in surprisingly fine condition
to be discovered,

sunken plunder
waiting for a poem brave enough
or crazed enough
to dive down deep enough
to salvage long lost gold,
enchanting jewels,
childhood joy-
oh, now i see!
sometimes these poems end in a prayer
and other times they are
an answer to that prayer.
that’s what this walk, this poem,
this under sea salvation
was about after all.
recovering lost joys,
hidden treasures of the soul.
a stroll into the deep dark lost within
to find ones gold,
Yes,
to find ones gold..
